These weeks, the BNA is closely following EU Commissioners’ hearings in Brussels, where Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) are questioning nominated EU Commissioners on their suitability for the job and knowledge of their respective portfolios for the new EU political cycle 2024-2029.
An update from Brussels: confirmation hearings of new EU Commissioners
We expect the following EU Commissioners and their portfolios will be of particular relevance to the Dutch architectural sector in the coming years:
- Commissioner for Energy and Housing – Dan Jørgensen (Denmark)
- Executive Vice-President for Clean, Just and Competitive Transition – Teresa Ribera
- Executive Vice-President for Prosperity and Industrial Strategy – Stéphane Séjourné (France)
- Executive Vice-President for People, Skills and Preparedness – Roxana Mînzatu (Romania)
- Commissioner for Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture and Sport – Glenn Micallef (Malta)
- Commissioner for Climate, Net Zero and Clean Growth – Wopke Hoestra (Netherlands)
During these hearings, EU Commissioner-designates are already teasing upcoming policy initiatives and legislation that will be officially presented once they are confirmed, such as a first-ever European Affordable Housing Plan and a Clean Industrial Deal.
It is very likely that all EU Commissioners will be confirmed, with the final approval expected on 25 November. Once this happens, the European Commission’s work programme for the new political cycle of 2024-2029 officially begins.
BNA will monitor developments closely to know first-hand and early on which initiatives are coming your way and may have an impact your work in the near future.
